Inquiry calls for learning disabilities DES

An inquiry has concluded that the DoH should develop annual health checks for all adults with learning disabilities.

The DoH should develop a directed enhanced service (DES) for GP practices to provide the checks, the report says.

Healthcare For All, an independent inquiry led by Sir Jonathan Michael, says that people with learning difficulties have higher levels of unmet need and receive less effective treatment.

The inquiry found a national scheme, similar to one used in Wales, can help identify untreated diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, thyroid disorders, asthma and mental illnesses in vulnerable people.
