Infographic: How the NHS PR bill is spent

An investigation using the Freedom of Information Act has found how much seven NHS organisations or regulators spend on PR and how this will, or is projected to, increase in 2014/15.

NHS England has both the biggest projected 2014/15 spend (£6.1m) and increase (38%). In contrast the next biggest spender, the DH (£4.7m), is the only organisation surveyed to see its budget fall (11.5%).

GP broke the original story last month after a parliamentary question by Labour shadow health minister Andrew Gwynne.

The story made the Daily Mirror and Mr Gwynne told GP: 'Jeremy Hunt is splashing the cash on spinners despite the NHS clearly being in a poorer state than when his government took over. He is desperate to talk about anything but the problems derived directly from their top-down reorganisation.'
