Pamela Holmes, Preventing Falls Programme Manager at Help the Aged comments:
One older person dies every five hours from a fall related injury, many of which are exacerbated by osteoporosis. This painful and disabling condition can shatter any hope of independence so we welcome this exciting development, a treatment which offers hope and a chance to live as independently as possible - something we all want.
Help the Aged is committed to supporting research into the causes and treatment of osteoporosis which has the potential to maintain older people's health and independence. Currently, Help the Aged and Research into Ageing are supporting research which examines how genetics and lifestyle affects the strength of our bones.
