Health visitor Patricia Ash, of Wally Foster Community Centre, City and Hackney Teaching PCT, was recognised for setting up evening sessions for single parents unable to access in-hours services.
The citation added: ‘She has also been instrumental in setting up the Honey Pot charity which provides short holidays for children from the Kingsmead Estate.
‘Pat runs an annual Christmas party for the children and has even paid for the party from her own pocket when funds could not be found elsewhere.’
Dr Alexandra Strachan, of North Road Surgery, Richmond and Twickenham PCT, won for the continuity of care she provided to a patient diagnosed with a terminal illness and his family.
The citation read: ‘She would go beyond the call of duty with visits and informal phone calls, even when my father was in hospital.
‘As a newly qualified doctor myself I found her an inspiration and a role model of the sort of doctor I want to become.’
