Health secretary to address RCGP's annual national conference

Health secretary Andrew Lansley has confirmed that he will address the RCGP's annual national conference on the final day of the event.

Mr Lansley will arrive fresh from the Conservatives annual party conference in Birmingham earlier that week.

He will give the ministerial address to GPs from all over the UK on the morning of Saturday 9 October.

The health secretary is the latest addition to a high-profile list of speakers including Dr David Pencheon, medical director of the NHS Sustainable Development Unit, Professor John Guillebaud of University College London, and Paralympic gold medallist Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson.

At last year’s event in Glasgow, Labour health secretary Andy Burnham failed to turn up to give his keynote speech, instead choosing to attend a Commonwealth event in the US.
