Guidance published for implementing Pharmacists with a Special Interest

The DoH has published a national framework for Pharmacists with a Special Interest (PhwSIs), as part of a series of documents in the ongoing ‘A Vision for Pharmacy in the new NHS.'

Pharmacists with a Special Interest
The framework is implemented as part of the wider development of the pharmacy workforce and allows accredited pharmacists to work with other primary care professionals to deliver care in new ways, using redesigned pathways.

A priority for the framework is to provide advice for commissioners to maximise the skills and expertise of PhwSIs to support service redesign and the move of services, where appropriate, to more convenient settings nearer the patient’s home.
