Meanwhile, Robert Francis, the QC who led an inquiry into failings at the Mid Staffordshire Foundation Trust has been knighted.
London GP Dr Howard Freeman has been awarded an MBE for services to general practice. Dr Freeman is Merton CCG chairman and has led a 20-partner practice across five sites in south London.
Somerset GP Dr James Hickman has been recognised with an MBE for services to healthcare, and in particular emergency medical care.
In 2012, he won a BBC 999 award after saving a man’s life by amputating his arm after it became stuck in machinery around 100 feet from the ground.
First supermarket GP service
Rochdale GP Dr Mohammed Jiva has also won an MBE for services to general practice. In 2008 he opened the UK’s first GP practice based at a supermarket.
Dr Yvonne Owen won her MBE for services to public health after working as clinical director to LIVES, a Lincolnshire volunteer emergency service charity.
London GP Dr Marilyn Plant also won an MBE for services to general practice. Dr Plant has been involved in GP commissioning for more than a decade.
Dr Amanda Doyle, chief clinical officer for NHS Blackpool, was awarded an OBE, along with NHS Bassetlaw CCG chairman Dr Steve Kell.
