GPC refuses to rule out contract ballot after White Paper

The GPC has not ruled out balloting the profession about contract negotiations, the GPC has said.

Last week, the White Paper revealed that the DoH aims to establish a single GP contract ‘over time’.

Deputy chairman of the GPC Dr Richard Vautrey said the GPC will wait and see what the government intends around contractural change before it makes a decision about asking the profession for its view.

He said: ‘We will look at every possibility to ensure that we are representing GPs… to ensure that we have the right feel.

‘I wouldn’t commit to balloting the profession [during the contract negotiations] but neither would I rule it out.’
