GPC letter aimed at reminding PCTs about PBC rules

The GPC has drawn up a model letter GPs can send to their PCT spelling out practices’ entitlements and PCTs’ responsibilities over practice-based commissioning (PBC).

The letter summarises DoH guidance published at the end of 2006.

GPC chairman Dr Hamish Meldrum said: ‘Some PCTs are not following national guidelines and failing to support practices in their wish to engage in PBC.

‘This model letter states what is expected of PCTs, for example, that the PCT should provide practices with indicative budgets.

‘The GPC wants to hear about any PCTs not fulfilling these requirements so that we can get an accurate picture of PBC local implementation this year and for use in our talks at national level.’
