Power-Plate® is playing a significant role in GP referral schemes across the UK. This market-leading fitness machine has IFI accreditation (Inclusive Fitness Initiative) and uses accelerated training technology to deliver a quick, low impact targeted workout suitable for anyone, regardless of their ability, mobility or fitness levels.
Under the GP referral scheme, GP’s and health professionals are able to refer patients with conditions limiting their physical activity, giving them access to exercise programmes and equipment to improve fitness and aid rehabilitation. Power-Plate® has been successfully incorporated into several schemes across the country including Applemore Health and Leisure Centre, one of five sites taking part in the ‘Healthy Horizons’ GP referral scheme under New Forest District Council.
Fitness Manager Katherine Gale comments, “We particularly chose to install Power-Plate® because of its IFI accreditation, which allows us to open our doors to an even wider range of people under the referral scheme. Power-Plate® is quick to use and is accessible to all fitness levels, which makes it an extremely versatile resource. It has proved extremely popular with our members.”
Power-Plate® has been developed to optimise the effects of acceleration training to deliver the equivalent of a one hour workout in just a fraction of the time. By holding various poses on the machine, be it a bicep curl, squat or stomach crunch on to the vibrating platform, Power-Plate® transfers vibrations to muscles, causing them to contract in a reflex action and exercise them to their optimum capacity.
Sunderland City Council’s Wellness centres have recently installed Power-Plate® as part of the Wellness Partnership with Sunderland Teaching Primary Care Trust. The Exercise Referall Program (H.E.L.P) Co-ordinator, Sue Collins, comments, “The programme is targeted at those individuals who may never set foot in a gym, and may be concerned about starting an activity programme. It is envisaged that the installation of Power-Plate® will provide additional exercise opportunities for both referred clients and other users of the wellness centre.”
Acceleration training is low impact and gentle, enabling anyone, regardless of their age or fitness levels to benefit without putting strain on joints or any other parts of the body, making it particularly appropriate to the members of this scheme. Regular sessions on Power-Plate® can help increase flexibility, improve blood circulation, increase bone density, build muscle tone, accelerate weight loss and is an invaluable tool in injury rehabilitation.
