GP and nurse views sought on banning alcohol for under-15s

The government wants to know whether GPs, nurses and other healthcare professionals back its advice on alcohol-free childhoods.

England’s CMO Sir Liam Donaldson urged parents of under-15s not to allow their children to drink alcohol last month.

A consultation by the Department for Children, Schools and Families is looking for input from healthcare professionals.

Sir Liam said: ‘With the help of key stakeholders as well as parents and young people, we hope that this guidance will act as a valuable tool for reducing the impact of youth alcohol consumption on health, crime, violence and anti-social behaviour.’
