GP launches his own radio station

A Yorkshire GP has launched a radio station for eastern Europeans, to promote social cohesion.

Dr Muhammad Iqbal, a GP at the Kensington Street Health Centre in Bradford, said the language barrier meant recent arrivals were often unaware of NHS and social services. Many miss out on vaccinations and other services affecting health.

To boost awareness, Dr Iqbal decided to launch EuroRYTM, a radio station that will broadcast in languages including Polish, Czech and Slovak.

The station will not just provide entertainment and information, he said. 'It will also help people come closer and feel part of the wider community.'

EuroRYTM will begin broadcasting in January.
