There is a group of print applets, which produce much better output than the standard LV print function and which automate print jobs that would otherwise involve a lot of typing and moving between LV modules and other Windows programs. Some of the functions could be performed using LV integration with Microsoft Word, but LV Applets has the advantage over Word of being quick and compact.
Other applets include a calendar applet which makes it very quick and easy to perform the most common date calculations; a pregnancy calculator; an online search applet in which a search term can be submitted to any of twelve search engines chosen for their relevance to primary care; a labs test picker giving a choice of blood tests from an on-screen form; and a reminder applet with several enhancements over the standard LV options for giving a quick display of patient details.
The applets are run from a menu based on a program which sits in the system tray (bottom right of screen). The tray app uses minimal system resources.
I have developed the software as a GP who uses LV on a daily basis. It has been extensively tested through the EMIS National User Group and the EMIS Online web sites. There have been over 600 downloads to date, with positive feedback from practices all over the country.
