Four Seasons Health Care have opened Domnall Intermediate Care Centre in Dundonald, County Down. The newly built centre was developed in response to the needs expressed by healthcare professionals in the province who feel that more care should be provided in the community, rather than in a hospital setting. GP’s and Purchasing Trusts will be pleased to know that there is now a strategic alternative to hospital, offering personal care to patients in a residential setting, which provides significant savings for the Purchasing Trust.

Domnall Intermediate Care Centre has 52 en-suite beds and provides up to date facilities including a therapy kitchen, a physiotherapist/therapy room, with the use of specialist equipment to meet individualised rehabilitation programmes – all delivered by a multi-disciplinary team of medical, nursing, pharmacy and therapy staff.

At Domnall, Four Seasons in partnership with specialist service providers, has developed three different models of intermediate care, which can be tailored to the purchasers requirements. All models can stand alone but are best deployed as part of a strategic hospital admission avoidance programme, co-ordinating all community and home service providers to create a “virtual community hospital” that systematically assesses patients’ needs and requirements leading to a more cost effective use of the acute hospitals specialist and costly resources.
