Flu season guide lets GP track workload impact

GPs can now track the severity of this winter's flu season via an interactive guide on GPonline.com, giving weekly updates on GP workload, vaccine uptake and more.

The Interactive Guide to the Flu Season 2011/12 gives GPs an overview of this year's flu season across the UK.

It also allows more detailed examination of the picture from England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales - all in one place.

Graphics track the spread of flu as the season progresses, with options to view GP consultation rates by age-group and region. It compares the extent of this year's outbreak to the previous season.

GPs can also see the latest vaccination rates for each UK country and how vaccination rates have changed over time, as well as how many patients are contacting NHS Direct and NHS 24 for advice.

The figures will be updated each Thursday when the regional UK public health bodies release their statistics.
