Fasting and epilepsy

LEAFLET

Ramadan

A leaflet entitled Focus on Fasting and Feasting has been produced giving advice for patients with type-2 diabetes who wish to participate in Ramadan. The leaflet is produced in English and also the main Asian languages of Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu and is targeted at the Asian community.

The leaflet gives advice about safely participating in feasting and fasting, especially during Ramadan, and a more general overview of living with type-2 diabetes.

The leaflet discusses disease management, diet control and when to seek medical assistance. Information is also given for the patient about what to do with their medication, and recommends that the patient visits their GP before and after the fasts.

The leaflet can be downloaded for distribution to your patients from www.servier.co.uk/pdfs/english_Patient_Leaflet.pdf

RESOURCE PACK

Epilepsy

National charities, Epilepsy Action and Epilepsy Bereaved, have produced a revised version of their popular Epilepsy Resource Pack, which is designed to support the implementation of the GMS quality markers for epilepsy.

The updated pack has been developed in line with NICE guidelines and offers advice on setting up systems for epilepsy audit, developing effective review procedures, and managing specific patient groups.

A PCT epilepsy tool kit is also available on CD, assisting in identifying the quality of current epilepsy services and suggesting where changes to service design and/or clinical management may improve outcomes.

To request a free copy of the resource pack or tool kit, call 0808 800 5050 (freephone) or visit ww.epilepsy.org.uk,/gpresource/index.html
