Exclusive: PCTs target nurses to work extended hours

Over 1 in 10 PCTs are offering up to £4.95 per patient so that nurses could work alongside GPs during extended hours.

The results are revealed in an Independent Nurse investigation of 63 PCTs.

Despite the extra cash, nurses have complained they are still only being paid their normal hourly rates instead of overtime.

The DoH’s extended hours directed enhanced service offers just £2.95 and does not recognise that nurses are required.
