Dr Hart said he hoped running with the Olympic torch set a good example for a healthy lifestyle for his patients.
He is a community GP and lecturer from Belfast. He is also pioneer in University College London’s altitude research group and has climbed Mount Everest as part of a study looking into hypoxia.
In addition to his mountaineering ventures, Dr Hart often speaks publicly about the benefits of outdoor exercise, telling audiences ‘you never regret going out’.
He said: ‘As GPs we are in a perfect position to help people pursue healthy lifestyles and I hope to continue setting an example.’
