Current GPs and GP registrars will also receive additional training to recognise the early symptoms of dementia.

The changes to training form part of the national dementia strategy for England launched by health secretary Alan Johnson today. The overall strategy is to be backed by £150 million of funding for the initial two years.

The funding will also pay for the appointment of dementia advisors and the establishment of memory clinics.
