Informa’s Map of Medicine supports Wales Air Ambulance with £500 donation
An Emergency Care Practitioner from Pontypool is handing over a cheque for £500 to the Wales Air Ambulance because of his part in trialing the Mobile Map of Medicine, a tool under development for doctors and clinicians by Medic-to-Medic, part of the Informa Group.
Jeff Price, an Emergency Care Practitioner (ECP) for the Welsh Ambulance Service, won the prize to give to his nominated charity after piloting a mobile version of the Map of Medicine. The Map of Medicine gives doctors and clinicians a web-based ‘pathway of care’ resource. It provides each user with a team of specialists when they need them, with questions answered in seconds. The mobile equivalent is now in development for use on PDAs and other mobile devices.
Craig Rhodes, Innovation and Development Manager for the Map of Medicine, explains, “We have been piloting the Mobile Map of Medicine with a team of doctors and ambulance paramedic practitioners. To help encourage their necessary and valuable feedback on this ground-breaking online mobile tool, we encouraged participation by offering a virtual balloon race with the winner giving a donation to a charity of their choice. It’s rewarding for the Map of Medicine team and Informa to support Jeff’s nominated charity, the Wales Air Ambulance, so they can continue their excellent support.”
Jeff Price, the ECP who trialed the Mobile Map of Medicine, says, “The device supports my clinical practice in the community where I’m treating patients at home. I wanted to give the money to Wales Air Ambulance because the paramedics in both the Welsh Ambulance Service NHS Trust and Air Ambulance have to work extremely hard, often in very difficult situations. It is good to know that I can add extra support to the community in Wales, where many people are in remote areas far from an A&E hospital and need these helicopters.”
Steve Jones, Regional Manager of the Wales Air Ambulance, adds, “Wales Air Ambulance relies entirely upon charitable donations to keep our air ambulances flying and saving lives across the whole of Wales. This is great support.”
