Bradshaw says Choose and Book works if GPs 'engaged'

The under-fire Choose and Book system can work with 'effective local clinician engagement', according to health minister Ben Bradshaw.

He told a debate in Parliament on Wednesday about a recent BMA report into Choose and Book: ‘It clearly shows that the system can work when local engagement, particularly with clinicians, is effective.

'Its conclusion states that the problems encountered were ‘not due to the functionality of the system but due to broader issues such as...processes in place and capacity issues...The clinicians interviewed felt that Choose and Book could potentially bring benefits and that a paper chase of referrals letters between GPs and around the hospital is not best practice.’

On Wednesday hospital researchers in south east London found Choose and Book increases non-attendance by 50%.
