Bomb alert interrupts RCGP opening

A security alert interrupted the official opening of the RCGP's new clinical skills assessment centre in Croydon, south London, last week.

BMA members, GPs and press were evacuated after a suspect package was reported at a bus stop outside East Croydon station. The centre will host examinations for 3,000 trainee doctors a year and has been fitted out as a series of mock consultation rooms, where candidates will be visited by trainers and actors. Pictured inset is the opening ceremony with Ailsa Donnelly, chairman of the RCGP's patient partnership group, shaking hands with RCGP president Dr David Haslam.
