They were randomised to take either 100mg aspirin or a placebo every other day.
Over 10 years, there were 872 new cases of asthma in the aspirin group, compared with 963 in the placebo group.
The effect was independent of age, menopausal status, exercise levels and smoking.
However, aspirin had no effect on asthma risk in women classified as obese.
