Dr Nagpaul told GPonline.com his top priority was to tackle workload problems faced by GPs. Overstretched GPs, he warned, are working over capacity and urgently need adequate resources.
The north London GP, who was elected to the top GPC job last week, said GPs should be more involved in out-of-hours services, but this was not an issue to be addressed through the GP contract.
CCGs should be able to commission local services which integrate all out-of-hours providers, including NHS 111, urgent care and walk in centres, he added.
