Video: Junior doctor strike 'hugely important' for GP recruitment crisis

The junior doctors' contract strike is 'hugely important' for addressing the GP recruitment crisis, a striking trainee has said.

East London GP trainee Dr Emma King said resolving the junior doctors contract dispute was important to help address the recruitment crisis.

'We just need more GPs to deliver the service Jeremy Hunt wants us to,' said Dr King. 'If you want a seven-day NHS the way you describe it, you're going to need to put more funding in, recruit more doctors, you definitely need to get on side wth us not work against us,' she warned the health secretary.

'Most of the public' supported the strike action, she added. 'Hopefully it makes Jeremy quiver in his boots.'

BMA leaders have confirmed that thousands of junior doctors joined strikes across the country at 160 pickets.
