Vascular screens happening now

Vascular screening checks proposed by the DoH repeat work already being carried out.

Last week, the DoH said those aged 40-74 would undergo a five-yearly check of medical history, height, weight, BP and blood cholesterol, with a roll-out expected next year.

Dr Anne Mackie, director of the UK National Screening Committee, admitted that some of these tests are already carried out.

Currently, 28 per cent of people have a cholesterol reading every five years, 53 per cent have BMI checked and 92 per cent have smoking status recorded.
