Update data now for more quality pay

The GPC has urged practices to update quality data as much as possible in time for 'prevalence day' next week to ensure figures reflect true national averages.

Baseline disease prevalence levels used to weight practices' quality pay for 2005/6 will be calculated from a snapshot of data on 14 February from IT systems in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. In Wales the data was collected on 1 February.

GPC deputy chairman Dr Laurence Buckman said he expected average prevalence to have risen slightly because practices would be more efficient.

He added that in future prevalence might be calculated from quality returns.
