London; 30th January 2007
London based change management and training consultancy Focus Games Ltd has
gained recognition from the board of UKCHIP (UK Council for Health Informatics
Professions) for its new product The IG Game™.
Patient information is protected by law and health professionals have legal and
professional obligations to ensure that this information is dealt with correctly.
Information Governance (IG) is an important issue for NHS staff but the official
guidelines and requirements are long and complex. This complexity can make it
difficult to interest staff in IG issues and implement any changes.
The IG Game™ is a simple scenario-based board game designed to help general
practice and pharmacy staff address IG issues quickly and effectively. The scenario
questions in The IG Game™ allow up to 14 players to have a series of open debates
among themselves and arrive at practical solutions relevant to them.
The 18 scenarios in the game translate the IG Toolkit and HORUS Matrix into
everyday language and situations. This helps players to understand and then prioritise
the activities needed to achieve an acceptable level of Information Governance. The
game kit also contains tools and templates that allow practices and pharmacies to
track and measure their progress.
Director Andy Yeoman said “We are delighted that UKCHIP has recognised The IG
Game™. It’s not easy for busy NHS staff to relate complex IG requirements to their
daily working lives. The IG Game™ translates these complex requirements into a
simple and practical toolkit. The game is fun to play and the planning tools allow the
practice to create and implement realistic IG action plans”
The game kits are delivered ready-to-use and are priced at £99 plus VAT and
carriage. A version of The IG Game™ is being developed for use within PCTs and it
will be available later in 2007.

The UK Council for Health Informatics Professions (UKCHIP) was formed in 2002
to promote professionalism in Health Informatics (HI). It operates a Registration
Scheme for Health Informatics professionals who agree to work to clearly defined
standards. Initially Registration is voluntary, although it is expected that, in the
future, the NHS will expect anyone working in Health Informatics to be registered.
Eventually it is envisaged that Statutory Registration will be introduced to protect the
interests of the public.
