Nurses’ job titles would be simplified and training would be similar to the pathway that doctors follow from medical school to specialist.

The party is consulting health professionals and the public on the plans to inform policy in time for the next election.

The Tories also hope to abolish all targets for nurses and create a ‘zero-tolerance’ policy to protect nurses from violence.

Promoting a new ‘national nurses day’ is one of a number of proposals aimed at attracting a broader range of people into the profession.

  • How should nurse pay and training be overhauled, if at all?
