Thieves steal laptops containing more than 30,000 patients' details

Details of more than 30,000 NHS patients have gone missing in two separate thefts.

A laptop containing unencrypted details of around 11,000 patients at Castlecroft Medical Practice, in Woverhampton, was stolen from the car of one of its GPs.

And six laptops containing details of around 21,000 patients were taken from an office at St George's Hospital, in south London.

‘What worries me is the possibility that these laptops may have been deliberately targeted by someone seeking information on children,' said Liberal Democrat family spokeswoman Susan Kramer.

She also expressed her concern that the St George's theft was from an office ‘only accessible with a swipe card and key'.
