Special LMCs conference: Minister tells GPs government wants to restore general practice

Primary care minister has told GPs meeting at the special LMCs conference in London that he wants to restore the service to the position it should have.

In a video message published as LMC representatives debated how to responsd to the crisis in general practice, Alistair Burt thanked GPs for their work and said he was genuinely 'looking forward' to what the conference has to say. 'I know there will be some tough things said,' Mr Burt added. 'I know that general practice is under pressure.'

Mr Burt said the government wanted to streamline bureaucracy and CQC inspections and was outting an additional 4-5% a year funding into the service over the next few years.

'I want to see [general practice] restored to the position it should have amongst the population and I do want to make sure that that excitement I know all of your felt going in to general practice becomes the norm again,' the minister said.
