Sessional GPs being excluded from consortia

Sessional GPs are being excluded from consortia board elections 'around the country', the GPC has warned.

Fledgling consortia are ignoring GPC guidance which says consortia elections should be democratic and inclusive, the GPC said.

GPC chairman Dr Laurence Buckman said it is ‘absolutely critical’ that the policy is implemented.

He said: ‘It is important that LMCs and all GPs stand up to this, otherwise we are disenfranchising a large chunk of general practice body. A third of GPs are sessional. They have as much entitlement as anyone else to not be excluded.’

He said he will write to LMCs again to point that consortia elections must be democratic and inclusive if professional confidence is to be maintained locally.
