RCN urges responses to DoH neonatal consultation

The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) is encouraging its members to respond to a DoH consultation on neonatal care.

The Neonatal Taskforce, established by the DoH as a joint initiative with the NHS, has developed two draft documents: Standards for Neonatal Care and a Neonatal Care Commissioning Framework available for comment.

The taskforce has addressed three areas raised in the recent National Audit Office report Caring for Vulnerable Babies: The re-organisation of Neonatal care in England: Transport/Transfer, Workforce, Data for Commissioning. In addition the taskforce considered standards for the provision of neonatal surgery.

Consultation closes on 16 April 2009.
