The Urgent and Emergency Care Clinical Audit Toolkit is designed to help integrate care across all providers of emergency care.

Launching the toolkit, RCGP clinical champion for urgent and emergency care Dr Agnelo Fernandes said the toolkit gave ‘an added string to the bow’ for GPs trying to cut emergency admissions.

Dr Fernandes said the toolkit fitted perfectly with the 47.5 points in the 2011/12 QOF targeting reviewing and reducing emergency admissions.

‘If you're going to look at your urgent care system and how to respond to it in terms of emergency admissions, then you need to have some mechanism for doing that,’ he said.

‘You need to have some mechanism for influencing behaviour within your own practice and within your consortium. This offers the mechanism to do that.’
