RCGP sets out White Paper concerns

The RCGP has expressed 'major concerns' over the pace of change and cost of the reforms set out in the White Paper.

Having discussed the White Paper Liberating the NHS with its members, the college council also warns that the reforms could cause disruption in areas where health services are already excellent.

Despite supporting the concept of clinical commissioning, the college is concerned the White Paper will lead to greater private sector involvement in the provision of care, as RCGP chairman Steve Field has previously warned.

The college is working on ways to support GPs' new commissioning role, including an education and training programme.
