Practices must now comply with advertising rules

Practices now have to adhere to a set of standards in order to advertise services to patients.

The DoH expects competition for patients to increase as a result of its choice agenda, so all professionals and organisations providing services to the NHS will have to comply with a set of standards.

The DoH's financial operating framework for the next two years states: 'Marketing activity by providers must follow statutory guidelines such as the Advertising Standards Authority Code, and must also reflect the values and brand policy of the NHS. No activity should be undertaken which undermines the reputation of the NHS or of any individual provider(s).'
