Poll predicts a close race to lead GPC

GPC elections for a new chairman this week will be hard fought after a GP poll revealed that there is no clear favourite.

Two 'backbench' candidates - Dr John Canning and Dr Eric Rose - emerged with Dr Andrew Dearden and Dr Laurence Buckman as front runners, each taking 24 per cent of votes in the poll.

However, Dr Peter Holden and Dr Richard Vautrey received little support from GP readers.

One respondent said Dr Rose had 'high ethics and is a hard working GP who understands our problems'. Dr Canning was described as a 'very experienced GP with local, regional and national credibility'. Dr Dearden was thought to be 'young and forthright', while Dr Buckman had the 'experience and presence to be a credible chairman'.

GPC members vote today. Healthcare REpublic will bring you the results as soon as they are in.
