PMS MPIG bid for GMS return

The GPC has issued guidance encouraging PCTs to offer PMS practices MPIGs when they change back to GMS contracts.

GPC negotiator Dr Chaand Nagpaul said it would be 'entirely appropriate' for PCTs to negotiate with PMS practices a funding arrangement when they return to GMS contracts.

He said: 'At a time when many PCTs are reviewing PMS contracts we are putting forward guidance to help practices.

'Hopefully some PCTs will have the maturity to see that they have everything to gain in supporting PMS practices and everything to lose in getting into battle with them.'

A DoH spokeswoman said it would not require PCTs to offer MPIGs.

She said: 'Local PMS contracts are based on local agreement between PCTs and GP practices.

'Any changes to the terms of those agreements, including whether a practice wishes to move to a GMS rather than a PMS contract, are a matter for discussion between the contracting parties. The DoH would not become involved in these individual discussions,' she added.
