PCTs reject Darzi's original polyclinic vision

NHS London is refusing to comment on reports that none of the first polyclinics planned for the capital are based on Lord Darzi's original polyclinic model.

All PCT plans accepted by NHS London so far are reportedly of the federated type, meaning existing practices on or near polyclinic sites may not be forced to close as previously feared.

The federated model, where existing practices link up to provide polyclinic-style services, is less controversial than the merged model, where GPs from surrounding practices are relocated under one roof.

Under Lord Ara Darzi’s Healthcare for London plans, up to 150 polyclinics will be built in the capital over the next decade.
