PCT defends controversial schoolgirl birth video

The viral video, created by Leicester City Teenage Pregnancy and Parenthood Partnership, was removed from YouTube following a number of complaints.

It had been uploaded to websites used by young people in a bid to raise awareness of the issue of teen pregnancy.

Tim Rideout, NHS Leicester City’s chief executive, said: ‘We know this film is hard-hitting but so are the numbers of under-18s getting pregnant in Leicester.

‘Nearly half the city’s wards are classed as teen pregnancy ‘hotspots’. The city’s Teenage Pregnancy and Parenthood Partnership has been successful in cutting the numbers of young girls getting pregnant but to make a long-term difference we need more education on safe sex, delaying sex if you’re not ready and the consequences of sex.’
