Patients to book appointments via digital TV

Patients across the country will be able to book a GP appointment at the touch of a button from the comfort of their armchair following a successful pilot scheme in South Yorkshire.

Viewers with a digital TV will be able to book, amend or cancel an appointment using their remote control. WAP-enabled mobile phone users will also have access to the service as part of a bid to cut time wasted in missed GP appointments which cost the NHS an estimated £162million a year.Makers EMIS also plan to include repeat prescriptions in the future to reduce pressure on GP surgeries.
