Following the confirmation of a swine flu diagnosis in the East Midlands, a total of 185 cases have now been identified.

The newly confirmed case was an adult who has recently returned from travelling.

A total of 44 cases around one school in Birmingham were identified earlier this week. These cases were linked to a previously confirmed case and an investigation of this school outbreak is ongoing, the HPA said.

A further 155 cases are currently under laboratory investigation in the UK. This includes a 37-year-old man in Glasgow critically ill in hospital with suspected swine flu. The man was admitted to the intensive care unit of the city’s Victoria Royal Infirmary.
