The five principals are to ensure that there are enough nursing staff:

  • To meet patients' need,
  • To stop nurses getting injured at work,
  • To meet the health and social care needs of patients with long-term or age-related conditions,
  • Prevent health care associated infections (HCAIs), and,
  • Provide the best possible nursing care through excellent education and training.

The RCN has its own European elections web microsite. It has developed a template letter, detailing the five priorities, which can be used to elicit the views and support of MEP candidates.
