North West SHA to lead on allergy

The North West has been appointed the first SHA to lead on allergy services, the DoH has announced.

It will lead and champion improvements in allergy services and develop a £60,000 pilot allergy centre, which will be used as a model for others across England.

The pilot allergy centre will bring together the expertise of all clinicians with an interest in allergy to provide an integrated and co-ordinated service across primary and secondary care for patients.

The National Institute for Health Research and the Medical Research Council have provided some £4.7 million over five years for research on asthma and allergy.
