NHS set for money-saving solution in the fight against MRSA, Pseudomonas and Clostridium Difficile

A stronger barrier against MRSA, Pseudomonas and Clostridium Difficile is about to save thousands of patients from contracting one or all of these killer bugs, whilst also saving the NHS and the healthcare industry millions of pounds.

Handaid™, launched by worldwide water offers up to seven hours protection and retains its effectiveness even after hands have been rinsed or exposed to water, forming a breathable layer of gel on the skin – like a virtual latex glove.

Surfaceaid™ is a counter top disinfectant spray that works by forming a layer on a given surface through which no bacteria or fungal contaminants can penetrate. Very similar in concept to Handaid™, Surfaceaid™ is for use on work surfaces, kitchen tops, medical implements and other equipment in need of long term sterilization. Inhibits growth of bacteria on surfaces and has a residual anti microbiocidal effect even after washing.

Currently NHS staff wash their hands upwards of 40 times a day, generally using a 180ml bottle of alcohol-based product every two days. This costs the NHS upwards of £3.6 million[1] and potentially could be reduced by 50%[2] if a change of attitude was initiated.

The groundbreaking new alcohol free hand gel has been scientifically developed to offer more than twice the normal protection from infections. It also provides a barrier against a wide range of bacteria, viruses, fungi and spores, eradicating viruses from skin.

Traditional alcohol-based products are currently used extensively across the NHS, Alcohols are rapidly germicidal when applied to the skin, but they have no appreciable persistent (i.e., residual) activity.  They are harmful to the environment and damage the skin of the user. The need to regularly reapply such products also makes them an expensive cost to the healthcare industry, which spends an estimated £3.6 million every year on them.

Handaid™ is also unusual in that it repels most soil and damaging agents and strongly assists in the reduction and loss of natural oils and moisture, thus allowing the skin to heal itself - so it’s better for health workers too.

Oscar D’Souza, from worldwide water comments: ‘The launch of Handaid™ and Surfaceaid™  is a major step forward in the fight against MRSA, Pseudomonas, Clostridium Difficile amongst others and the huge variety of bacteria and viruses facing everyone working in the healthcare profession today. Handaid™ works like an invisible glove, offering a greater level of protection than alcohol-based products. And the great thing is it doesn’t involve any chemicals so is kinder to the skin and the eco-system’.

The science
Handaid™ and Surfaceaid™ are totally biodegradable, contain no Alcohol or silicone, and are environmentally friendly, non-toxic and non-carcinogenic.

Handaid™ does not involve the use of soaps or other harmful chemicals and can also be used as a second line of defence in extreme bacterial infection exposure under latex gloves in crisis and emergency situations.

‘Handaid™ has been in developed following many years of research, where the aim was to formulate a product that did not contain potentially harmful chemicals, alcohol and where the efficacy was far longer than any product available.
