NHS pension opt-out

By Kevin Quinn, 08 April 2010

I am a GP partner and hope to retire on my 60th birthday in May 2011. I paid £25,000 in NHS pension contributions last year. If I contribute in 2010/11, the increase in my annual pension will be small, so I am thinking of opting out of the scheme from May 2010. Can I opt out and how do I do this? What happens to my pension while I am not adding to it? Does it rise with inflation?
