News in brief

Challenge to NHS patient payments Doctors for Reform has launched a campaign to raise funds to challenge the DoH's ban on patients paying towards their NHS treatment. It aims to raise £35,000 to allow a patient to seek a judicial review of the DoH's position. The groups says a win in the case could help thousands of patients. www.doctorsforreform.com

Outcome-based practice contracts Practice contracts should be conditional on raising patient satisfaction levels and improving health outcomes rather than 'contracts for life', according to the Confederation of British Industry. It is also calling on the DoH to allow patients to register at more than one surgery, removing existing geographical constraints over where patients can register (www.cbi.org.uk ).

Competition winner The winner of March's polyclinic survey draw was Dr George Young, of Hall Green Health, in south Birmingham. He receives £100 of Amazon vouchers after being selected from 205 responses.
