News in brief: Push to recruit chief executives from clinical ranks

All shortlists for NHS trust chief executive posts should include at least one clinician within three to five years, the health service's top civil servant has said. NHS chief executive David Nicholson told a King's Fund conference last week that SHAs were developing training programmes to identify and train potential leaders from clinical and management backgrounds. He said change in the NHS could not be delivered without the engagement of clinicians.
