Measles component of MMR 'highly effective'

The measles component of the MMR vaccine is highly effective in preventing measles infection, according to a Health Protection Agency (HPA) study.

Analysis of laboratory-confirmed cases of measles estimated that one dose of MMR vaccine provides over 95 per cent protection against measles. Two doses provided almost 100 per cent protection.

This confirms that current UK policy is highly effective and that the main reason for the recent increase in measles is failure to vaccinate, according to the HPA.
