Police were called to the Station Road Surgery in Surrey at around 11am on Monday, where a man believed to be in his eighties was found dead after reports of a gunshot.

The surgery has been closed down, and staff at the practice told GP they could not comment.

A Surrey Police statement said officers were called to the practice after a sudden death and ‘reports that a firearm had been discharged in the building’.

‘Officers are carrying out a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death but at this stage there is no indication of any third party involvement or wider risk to the local community,’ the Surrey Police statement said.

‘A post mortem examination will take place in due course.’

The Daily Telegraph reported that a member of staff at the practice understood the man had been found dead after shooting himself either in toilets or the reception area.
